As a historically open, welcoming, and affordable community, the 46th ward has long been a place where the LGBTQIA+ community has been able to live and thrive. In a time of increasing threat to our LGBTQIA+ neighbors and an undermining of women’s rights in the US, it is more important than ever that the 46th ward be a place where people of all genders and sexual orientations can be protected and receive the services they need to thrive.
As alderperson, I will fight to:
- Make Chicago a protected city for abortion services, gender affirming care, and LGBTQIA+ life for residents and the greater Midwest.
- Keep Weiss Memorial hospital open and thriving, preventing any development or sale that threatens the long-term viability of the hospital our ward depends on and which is a statewide leader in gender-affirming care.
- End gendered violence and violence against the LGBTQIA+ community through concrete, fully-funded initiatives that protect survivors and empower the community to stand against hatred and acts of violence.
- Ensure that as we re-establish social services that have been cut or expand social programs, that they are fully inclusive of our LGBTQIA+ neighbors.
